Rachel Irene Flowers Stokes, age 97, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Best of Care Nursing Home in Kannapolis. Mrs. Stokes was born on February 11, 1924 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Charlie Flowers and Nora Brown Flowers.
She was a lifelong member of Highest Praise Family Worship Center. Earlier in life, she worked at Corriher Mills in Landis. Going places and being with her family was her current pastimes. She was active in the church, where she sung in the choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Loyd Smithdeal Stokes, as well as her son-in-law David Linker. She is also preceded by her brothers, J.C Flowers and Vernon Flowers.
Family members left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sandra Stokes James (Mark) and Sheila Stokes Linker. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Steve Martin Barrier (Tammy), Jennifer Barrier Arnez (Juan) and Calli Linker Plott (Charles). Great-Grandchildren are Colton Barrier, Brylan Barrier, Austin Childers, Michael Childers, Alivia Arnez, Avery Arnez, Madilyn Arnez, Lynlee Propst, Lainey Plott and Watson Plott.
Visitation for Mrs. Stokes will be on Tuesday December 21, 2021 from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at Highest Praise Family Worship Center in China Grove. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM at the church with S.C. State Bishop Bruce Rabon, Pastor Wayne Miller and Pastor Rick Hudson officiating.
