Mrs. Mary Spencer Coble, 90 of China Grove passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Kiser Hospice House. Born on December 8, 1923 in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Edna Albright Spencer. Educated in the Rowan County Schools, she was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in Salisbury and later attended New Hope Presbyterian Church in China Grove. With Mary's father working for Southern Railway, Mary lived in Salisbury, Danville, Va. and Greensboro. Before she married Henry, she worked for Belk Department Store in Danville and Southern Railway in Greensboro. After marriage, she became a mother and housewife. In the mid 1950's, they moved from Greensboro to Mount Airy, where they eventually bought and operated the Blu-Vue Restaurant and Motel. She also became active in th PTA and served as a Girl Scout leader. In Mount Airy, she belonged to the First Presbyterian Church. In the mid 1980's, they retired and moved to Salisbury. She served as an elder in th Second Presbyterian Church in Salisbury. Mary and Henry were married for forty five years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Henry F. Coble, brothers Malvin, Johnny, Clyde and Bobby Spencer, sisters Sara Spencer Gemayel and Lois Edna Spencer. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Dorothy Ann Coble, Spencer and Shari Bivens (Butch) of China Grove, granddaughter Brie Bivens of China Grove and sister, Judy Thompson (Bob) of Fletcher, sisters in law; Doris Hess Spencer of Lexington, and Marilyn Wentworth Coble of Daytona Beach, Fla. Many nieces and nephews (including great and great great) who she loved very much. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 noon to 1:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with funeral at 1:00 also at the funeral home with Revs. James Byers and Margaret Almeida, ministers. Burial will be at Rowan Memorial Park.
