Larry Muriel Beaver, known by his nickname “Pete”, passed away on January 29, 2018, at the age of 91. Pete was born on October 27, 1926, at his family home on Pump Station Road in Kannapolis. He was the fourth of eight children born to Larry Muriel Beaver, Sr., and his wife, Mary Lo Deemie Pethel Beaver. Pete was married to the late Almer Lee Hart, for fifty-three years. She preceded him in death in July of 2001. Also preceding Pete in death were his sisters, Lucille Beaver and Velma Beaver Dancy, as well as his brothers, Bernard Beaver and Gene Beaver. Surviving family members include his daughter, Sherry Beaver Lewis, of Concord, NC, and his grandchildren, Heather Lewis Quagliana and Phillip Lewis, both of Cleveland, TN, and Greg Lewis and Elizabeth Lewis, both of Concord, NC. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Izabella Quagliana, Lucas Quagliana, and Kennedy Lewis, all of Cleveland, TN. He has two surviving sisters, Alene Beaver Ross and Evelyn Beaver Smith, both of Jacksonville, FL, and on surviving brother, Oscar Beaver of Palm Bay, FL. Pete was very dedicated to his family and was known to be a kind and generous man for his entire life.
Pete served in the United States Navy during World War II from January of 1944, to October of 1947. He worked in Kannapolis as an automobile mechanic during his early adult years. He and his family relocated from Kannapolis to Columbia, SC, in 1958. He drove a long-distance tractor trailer truck for many years, and then drove a city bus in Columbia for several more years. He returned to Concord, NC, in 2010, at the age 83 years old. He referred to the move as “coming home.”
He was a member of the Kannapolis Church of God before moving to Columbia, SC, and again after moving back to Concord. There will be a memorial service for Pete at the Landis (formerly, Linn-Honeycutt) Funeral Home in Landis, NC, at 1:00 on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
