Karen was born on July 18, 1956, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Huston and Dorothy Rogers. Growing up, Karen loved showing horses with her longtime friend Bobbie, and won ribbons while showing competitively. Karen also loved muscle cars—her favorite was the corvette. She was a bartender in Roanoke where she met lots of friends and even got to meet one of her favorite bands, The Doobie Brothers, when they were starting out. She and her mother also worked as waitresses together at a couple different restaurants in Roanoke and also near Clemson, South Carolina. This is where she met husband James Wilkerson, or “Clutch”, as she and all his work friends called him. James and Karen married June 27, 1992, and she inherited his 2 children, Suzanna and David. Karen loved them like they were hers even if there were some bumps along the way.
Karen was a special person who touched the lives of many. She loved music and attended many concerts, often with ‘daughter’ Suzanna. She was preceded in death by her parents Huston and Dorothy, nephew Clarence “Junior” Church, and her beloved pets, mini schnauzer Spuds and cat Abbey.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 31 years, James Wilkerson, daughter Suzanna Miller (Tim), and son David Wilkerson (Jennifer), all of Salisbury. She also leaves her sister Linda Dye (John), and special niece, Debbie Backman, of South Carolina. Karen was also the proud grandmother to Garrett Miller (Courtney), and McKenzie and Trey Wilkerson, and new great-grandson Colton Miller, all of Salisbury. She will be greatly missed..
