I first met Joe at the theatre in Pirates of Penzance. We fought and drank together as pirates, sailed as bumbling sailors in HMS Pinafore.  We told stories of the Bible in Children of Eden and created Mischief in Seussical.  Of all the roles we shared, our time together as friends will be the one I miss the most.  Joe’s booming laughter, loving presence, and valued friendship will be sorely missed.  

Joe was so sweet and Loveable I would ride his van he was a great person and I will miss him what happen to him my name is Alisha and his smile could win anyone’s heart

I am sure going to miss him.  We have had many chats in the magistrates office over the last 26 yrs of his service.  He was a great man and a wonderful friend!  He will be missed by all.

Joe and I were members of App State's ROTC program 1971-1975.He served in the US Army as an Armor Officer and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He also served in West Germany and  commanded a tank company. He was my friend and we both pledged and were brothers in the ASU Pershing Rifles Honor Society and its drill team all 4 years. Joe additionally served on the Color Guard for football and basketball games, parades, and other special events. I got to reconnect with Joe when I retired to Salisbury, but Covid prevented us from visiting as much as we wanted. He was a great friend and I will miss him until we meet again with other Veterans at Fiddler's Green...

I worked with Joe on several Piedmont Players shows.  He was always a fun person to work with.  My condolences to his family and friends!

So sad to hear of Mr Joe McGoo. Our friendship goes all the way back to 1990 when we both worked at Food Lion in Rockwell. That is where the nickname McGoo came from. He was a character, a genuine friend! My thoughts and prayers are with all that mourn his passing

Joe McGee, you will be missed greatly.  Our friendship goes all the way back to 1996 when I began working at Spencer PD.  The first memory I have of you is as a magistrate bringing down the hammer on a male that I brought in and you giving him heck that he had given me so much trouble.  I truly knew that you had my back and would have done anything...to include giving your own life for mine.  That is the definition of a true friend.  You always had so many great stories over the years that I often just wanted to come into the office or call the office for no other reason than to talk to you.  You always made me feel loved and safe and always made me laugh.  I know you are in Heaven making not only the angels laugh, but also God.  I love you my friend and will someday see you again.  Until then I know you are always there looking out for me and over me and I will always remember your smile and your jokes and stories. 

One of the greatest men I’ve ever met. Joe thanks for always doing a great job at upholding the law…and thanks for always being a great friend. Thanks for always coming by the shop and check up on me and thanks for the knowledge you shared and the great conversations…you will be greatly missed…..

Joe and I worked together on many occasions!  I always looked forward to those days that our schedules placed us working together in the Magistrates Office!  He always had something going on and I spent most of my day in laughter.   For years, Joe would join our community choir presentation at First Baptist Church of THE LIVING CHRISTMAS TREE!  And then for a while, I worked with him at Rowan Transit. It was always a pleasure to be in Joe’s company!   Joe , I know that you are looking down on us from Heaven and dancing on the Streets of Gold!  You will be missed by many.  This isn’t goodbye, my friend  but farewell, And one thought that you always left me with… I WILL SEE YOU SOON MY FRIEND!  Prayers for your family.  

We worked 5 years together at The Polar Express. I could not ask for a better person to spend time with.

Joe and I shared the same love for Music. He will be greatly missed. He was dedicated to his country and a decorated member of the 82nd Airborne. He was also dedicated to his community in his career aspirations. A contributor to the Arts and a true inspiration to many children in this area at Christmas. Keep flying high Joe....... Phil 

Love and light to you, Sheryl, and to your family.  Joe was such an important member of this community and gave us so much.  He had a way of making everyone feel special.  We will feel his absence for a very long time.   May you feel God's arms around you.

I met Big Joe during a Piedmont Players production that I choreographed.  In his part on stage, Joe had to dance, but was very light on his feet and an excellent performer.  I enjoyed working with him and getting to know him.   Later on, I enjoyed his performances as Santa at the Polar Express at the NC Transportation Museum.  
To his family, I am sorry for your loss.  
Joe also married my husband Pete and me. 


I met Joe when I was business manager at PPT and taught him a little tango move for "Candide". Joe could tell a tale. He offered sage advice when I was in a pickle. Most recently, he shared Jesus was his savior and now he is my savior, too. Joe, thanks for leaving God in our wedding ceremony. You were a good friend to many and we loved you.

So sorry for your loss. Prayers for all during this difficult time. I met Joe a few times , he was a very nice man, always cheerful and smiling.

I was good friends with his son in High school. But I remember Joe bailing me out of a major jam when he was magistrate. I will never forget his kindness in my situation. He stuck his neck out for me. 

He was a tough, stern man. But I saw his kindness and compassion.
