Born on April 20, 1944, in Harnett County, NC, John grew up in Tarboro and Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late Dr. John Alson Lineberry Sr. and Jane Lassiter Lineberry Armstrong.
John was a proud graduate of Garinger High School in Charlotte, NC, Class of 1962. He went on to earn a degree in Accounting from Atlantic Christian College. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church. John enjoyed a distinguished career, retiring as CFO of Voith Paper US, and later found fulfillment in a second career as a realtor with Prudential Carolinas Realty.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathy R. Lineberry; his sister, Jacqueline Lineberry; and his step-sister, Mary Armstrong Cuthbertson.
John will be remembered for his ever-present smile, quick wit, and generous spirit. He never met a stranger and loved striking up conversations and getting to know people—connecting with others came naturally to him. He had a heart for giving and often “paid it forward” to strangers just because it brought him joy. He also deeply valued time with his family and loved playing Bridge with friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Bates (Jay); his sister, Martha L. McQueen; his step-sister, Ruth A. Taylor; his niece, Angela M. Wells; and his nephew, Angus A. McQueen III.
