Mr. Jimmy Ray Cooper, age 79 of Salisbury, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Novant-Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born July 31, 1941 in Ringold, Georgia, Jimmy was the son of the late Floyd Tendel Cooper and Eunice Madoline Thompson Cooper. In addition to his parents, his brother, Will Cooper also preceded him in death. Jimmy was a former Baptist minister.
Jimmy spent most of his career as a maintenance supervisor within the North Carolina Prison System. He also worked as a licensed electrician. In his spare time, he loved to working (tinker) on cars, trucks and anything mechanical. After his health declined, he really enjoyed "keeping company" at J.R. Williams Garage with his dear friend. Jimmy was a true family man and loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Christopher Ray Cooper and his wife, Michelle and James Michael Ballard and his wife, Susan and his daughter, Debbie Kuglar and her husband, Brantley. Also surviving Jimmy is his brother, Steven Michael Cooper and his wife, Kim. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Jimmy will be buried at West Lawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you kindly remember Jimmy with memorials in his honor to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
