Born in Rowan County on July 2, 1934, he was the son of the late Robert Haywood Daugherty and Erma Poplin Daugherty.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Broadway Daugherty; brother, Greer Haywood Daugherty; sister, Roxie Daugherty Overcash, and son-in-law, Bill Christie.
Mr. Daugherty proudly served in the United States Navy and was a member of Lutheran Chapel, where he served on various committees and the church council. He loved his church family and was involved in many church activities.
He worked as an electrician with Hoechst Celanese (Fiber Industries) for many years and was a Past Master of the Eureka Masonic Lodge #283.
The time he spent with family was special. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time outdoors, either splitting wood or tinkering. He also loved all types of fishing and especially enjoyed time at the beach.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, David Daugherty (Joyce) and Andrea Christie; grandchildren, Chase (Nichole) Daugherty and Bubba (Kaitlyn) Daugherty and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Mae Daugherty and Turner James Daugherty.
He is also survived by his stepchildren, Richard (Michele) Spillman, Jimmie Sue (Pernell) Collette and Darryl (Lisa) Barney; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (B.J.) Hunsucker, Laura (Dakota) Roberts, Michael (Kristina) Spillman, Sarah Collette and Courtney (Josh) Leath; and step-great-grandchildren, Rebecca Claire Hunsucker and Evelyn Marie Hunsucker.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Lutheran Chapel.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
