Janice Karriker Bennett of Holly Springs, North Carolina, went to dwell with the Lord on March 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was as tough as nails yet had a tender spirit and remained more concerned for others despite herself. She was beloved by her family and friends old and new. Born July 5, 1952, in Mooresville to the late Carl Wiley and Muriel Karriker she was also wife of the late Harold Phillip Bennett, II. They married in 2010 and several years later relocated to Holly Springs, NC to be closer to their grandchildren. Janice is the loving mother of Ashley Grady, husband Tim, of Holly Springs, NC and the stepmother of Meredith Bunn, husband Jon, of Garner, NC and Christopher Bennett, wife Tammy, of Wilson, NC. She has five grandchildren who she adored greatly: Rachel and Harper Grady, and Parker, Hudson, and Gracie Bunn. She is also survived by her sister Sherry Rice, husband David, as well as her nephew Billy Hodge, wife Julie James, and niece Lauren Nance, husband Christian, and their sons Jackson and Anderson.
She graduated from South Rowan High School in 1970 and was a dedicated, hard worker throughout her life. She was an administrative assistant at Cannon Mills and then at Fiber Industries (Celanese) in Salisbury. She later worked as a machine operator and retired from Philip Morris USA in Concord. She was an active member at Concord First Assembly (Multiply Church) where she was a devoted member of the prayer team. She would spend her Sunday afternoons visiting and praying with hospitalized parishioners and their loved ones. She donated her time at the First Assembly food pantry helping sort, organize and distribute food to those in need. She also faithfully supported her husband in his ministry of building walls of continuous prayer locally and throughout the world.
Her faith was her first love with a close second being the love for her grandchildren. They brought her immense pride and joy. Whether she was watching a soccer game, attending a birthday party, or just waiting on the ice cream truck together, she loved them each beyond measure. In her spare time, she enjoyed completing home improvement projects, gardening, and baking for others. Her pecan pie, raw apple cake and lemon pound cake were always coveted at family gatherings. She enjoyed playing Mahjong with her friends, and she loved to laugh. She had a witty sense of humor which was alive and well through her final days. The warmth of her eyes and radiant smile would light up any room and will be missed.
