Janet Elizabeth Rouse Kennedy, age 79 of Salisbury, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 after a period of declining health. Born February 21, 1942 in Lenoir County, she was the daughter of the late Durwood Alton Rouse and Mary Elizabeth King Rouse. In addition to her parents, her husband of 33 ½ years, Wesley Carroll Kennedy and her grandson, Benjamin Kennedy, also preceded her in death.
Janet graduated from Moss Hill High School in Lenoir County where she played basketball and was a school bus driver. She spent her career in administration in the skilled nursing facilities. In her spare time, she loved watching westerns on television, listening to Elvis sing and reading her Bible. Before losing her husband, she loved traveling with him to the beach and to the mountains. She had a great love for her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael C. Kennedy (Hope) and Tony Kennedy (Mary Ellen) and her daughter, Mary Westina Kennedy. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Johnathen Kennedy (Cathy), Valerie Kennedy, Becky Gaspard (Josh), Madison Griffis (Zach), Brooks Kennedy, Elle Kennedy, along with nine great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her brother, Alton Rouse (Gwynn) and her sisters, Donna Moody (Ed) and Brenda Ball and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service for Janet will be on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Back Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mt. Ulla at 10:30am officiated by Pastor Jerry Snipes. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested you kindly remember Janet with memorials in her honor to either the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House, 1229 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144 or Back Creek Presbyterian Church – Cemetery Fund, 2145 Back Creek Church Road, Mt. Ulla, NC 28125.
