

Hazel Mauldin died June 25, 2017. She was born May 15, 1916 on a farm in the Mt. Gilead, NC. She was the twelfth child of Florence Sells and James Norman Luther. At 16 she left the farm and went to work at China Grove Cotton Mill, China Grove, NC. There she met and married Raymond Mauldin. They were married for 54 years before Raymond’s death. They both worked at that same mill until retirement. Hazel was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she and her famous pound cakes were greatly loved.
At age ninety she left China Grove and moved to Murrells Inlet with her son Philip. There she inspired others by her thrice weekly attendance at exercise class. She was an affiliate member of First Presbyterian Church, Myrtle Beach, SC.
Predeceased by her husband, her beloved son Robert R., parents, six brothers and five sisters, she is survived by her son Dr. Philip (Judy) Murrells Inlet, SC and daughter-in-law Pat Mauldin. In addition she leaves countless beloved nieces and nephews including Francine Luther, Greensboro, NC and Carolyn Searcy, China Grove. Her dear friend Clara Turentine also survives.
Hazel’s pride and joy were her seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren: Mary Beth Edenfield (Ronnie), Gilbert, SC; Ellie Jansky (OJ) Savannah and Riley, Murrells Inlet; Clayton Mauldin, Rocky Mount, NC; Tricia Pannill (David), Kristy, Tom, and Janie, Cary, NC; Beth Turnage (John), Olivia, Rob, and Graham, Rocky Mount; Dr. Anne Mauldin (Jim Blount) Ginny and Jay, Greenville, NC; and Kate Mauldin (Matthew Barton), Waite, Reave and Benji, Durham, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mauldin Bell Choir at First Baptist Church, Patterson Street, China Grove, NC 28523 or the charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Friday, June 30th at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, 1420 N Main Street, China Grove, NC. The graveside funeral service will be at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1350 S. Main Street, China Grove, NC at 11 AM, June 30th.
