On May 22, 1948 Junior married his “Becky” (Rebecca Josephine (Sifford) Belk). They worked side by side to build a strong, happy, loving, faith-filled home and family. They lived on Mt. Moriah Church Road (in the house that Junior built) and raised their family as members of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove. Junior was a highly respected man and much loved husband (for 67 years), father of four, grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 16.
On Thursday afternoon, October 20, 2016, George Locke Belk, Jr., 87, passed away in his family home after an intense but brief illness. He was lovingly cared for and surrounded by his family. Junior was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Edith and his beloved wife, Becky. Junior is survived by his son Eddie Belk and his wife Marva; his daughter Debbie Beam and her husband Roy; his daughter Connie Gilmore and her husband Ronnie; his daughter Phoebe Chester and her husband Rick; his grandchildren Terry (Deborah), Robert (Paula), Heather (Tom), Becky (Gary), Autumn (John), Dana (Eric), Misty (Eric), Jason (Brittany), and Travis; his great-grandchildren Alex, Dean, Vonni, Ginia, Alisha, Megan, Abilene, Benjamin, Caitlin, Madeline, Macon, Brynlee, Breyson, Jayse, Eli and Josiah; his sister Bobbie (Herbert) and his brother Donald (Carolyn).
Junior was a very hard working man who loved, encouraged and supported all of his family. He was respected and trusted to his word by all who knew him and he was helpful to everyone. He and his brother Donald were Belk Brothers Construction and built proud homes for hundreds of appreciative families throughout the Rowan/Cabarrus/Iredell/Davidson region. Junior always built … during his life building whatever was needed … his home and the furniture within it, homes for his children and their families, cribs/furniture/toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the home at High Rock Lake for the whole family to enjoy. He taught us all by living example how to earn what we need or want, and how to always be a good and decent person … and how to be a little stubborn when it’s needed. He will be deeply and dearly missed by all.
