Eric Sherwood Thompson

Eric Sherwood Thompson, age 58 of China Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 13, 2021 in McDowell County. Born April 5, 1963 in Cabarrus County, Eric was the son of the late Craven Sherwood Thompson and Zola Clodfelter Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, David Thompson and sisters, Marcell Thompson and Sandra Thompson Clark.

Eric spent his career doing what he loved – remodeling and building things. He loved to create new designs and was a “jack of all trades” and could fix just about anything. In earlier years, Eric could be found coaching baseball or any sport his son played. His son, Craven was his best friend and he loved spending his time with him. Eric never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He was a role model and mentored many a young person over the years. He had a gift for listening and helping them through difficult circumstances.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Craven Junior Thompson and his brother, Gary Thompson (Traci). He also leaves behind his nieces, Tina Hodnett (Tony), Janet Russell, Patience Thompson, Tara Thompson Capezzuto and his nephew, Peyton Thompson along with too many friends to count.

Visitation for Eric will be on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral Service will be in the Chapel on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 11:00am officiated by Pastor Chad Hayes. Burial at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove will immediately follow. Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in honored to be serving the family of Mr. Thompson.
