He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Patricia, son Scott (Diane) and daughter Lisa (Craig) Smokstad. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Malvin and Joyce Jones, and his brother Dennis Jones.
Born on July 24, 1939, in Madelia, MN, to Malvin and Joyce, Ellis graduated from high school and went on to serve proudly in the U.S. Navy for three years. After returning to Mankato, he met the love of his life, Patricia Laingen. The two were married in 1963 and shared 61 wonderful years together.
Ellis and Patricia moved to Shakopee, MN, where they raised their two awesome children and made lifelong friends along the way. He also had the joy of being a proud grandfather to: RaElla, Eric, and Kyle, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He cherished his family, particularly the special moments spent with his grandchildren.
A man of few words, Ellis will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his quiet kindness, and his signature "Bonhomme Richard" tattoo (which may or may not have been real, but it made for great stories).
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The cemetery is located at 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
After the service, everyone is welcome to celebrate in his shop at 310 Parks Field Drive.
