Dorothy Mae Smith

Dorothy Mae Mitchell Smith age 91 of Landis passed away on February 1, 2022 at Transitional Healthcare in Kannapolis. Mrs. Smith was born on April 17, 1930 in Alexander County and was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle Mitchell.

Earlier in life, she worked in the hosiery business and later for Northeast Medical Center in housekeeping. Some of her favorite things were playing bingo and doing puzzles. Being with her family meant a lot to her as well. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lester Eugene Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son Lester Eugene Smith Jr. (Cecilia) and daughters June Sechler and Vickie Black( John). Her surviving sister is Lucille Ferrell. Grandchildren include Cindy Byrd (TIm), Regina Williams (Mark), Sandra Black (Sam), Johnny Black, Ashley Allen (John), Melissa Sechler, Stevie Sechler (Tina), Junior Sechler (Shelby) Barbara Grotzke (Todd) and Roxanne Ladd (Mike). She also had 20 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2:30 pm till 3:30 pm at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove, with funeral to follow at 3:30 also at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Perry, officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Landis.
