China Grove-Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth Spry Hauss, 85, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013, at CMC-Northeast Medical Center. Born December 1, 1927 in Salisbury, she was a daughter of the late Aaron Hill and Myrtie Lee Hellard Spry. A graduate of Cannon High School, Dot had worked for Cannon Mills, where she was the personnel office secretary. A longtime devoted member of First United Methodist Church in China Grove, she had served on the kindergarten committee, was the pianist for the kindergarten and Williams Sunday School Class for 60 years, was a member of the Mattie Eller Circle, adult choir and funeral meal coordinator. She had also received the distinguished "Service Above Self" Rotary Club award, had been a Girl Scout leader and PTA President. Dot loved people and enjoyed helping and cooking for them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Hauss, in 2008 and a son, John David Hauss, in 1965, and a number of brothers and sisters.
Family members left with cherished memories include her daughters, Lee Ann Hauss, Landis and Carol H. Cable (Gene), of Salisbury; her son, William E. "Bubba" Hauss, III (Carol) of Salisbury; brothers, Charles Spry (Jackie), of Concord, Jerry Spry (Judy) of Landis , Wayne Spry of China Grove and her sister, Phyllis Spry, of China Grove; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Cable, Samantha Lauren Cable and Luke Travis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 22, 2013, from 3:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00, at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. Funeral services to remember and celebrate her life will be at 11:00 am Saturday, at First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. George Yates. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.
