Health Rowan Medical Center. He was born on April 9, 1925, in Rochester, N.Y. to the late
Carter J. Hughey and Jean McDonald Hughey. He was preceded in death by Lois Erion
Hughey, his wife of 51 years. He was of the Methodist faith. After graduating from Batavia
(Ohio) High School in 1942, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1943 to 1946 in the
580th AAA Battalion. He was a retired drivers license examiner for the state of Ohio. David
lived most of his life in Batavia, Ohio, but treasured his later years in Rowan County. Up to the
end, he enjoyed making new friends and talking with people, including his many friends at
Carillon Assisted Living in Salisbury.
He is survived by his son David Hughey, Jr. and wife Sharon Corriher Hughey of Salisbury,
sister Mary Jane (John) Richter of Sanibel, Fl., sister-in-law Muriel Erion Dodds of Las Vegas,
Nev., and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Carillon
Assisted Living of Salisbury, The Laurels of Salisbury and Novant Health Rowan Medical Center
for their care and support.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:00 am at Centenary United Methodist Church, 620 Centenary Church Rd. Mt Ulla, NC
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the cemetery fund at Centenary United Methodist
Church, 620 Centenary Church Rd., Mt. Ulla, NC 28125.
Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove will be assisting the family.
