Born on February 13, 1925 in China Grove, NC, she was the daughter of the late Carl “Lucky” and Buena (Goodnight) Hinson. Ms. Barnhardt spent the majority of her life in North Carolina, where she attended Landis schools before continuing her education at Salisbury Business College. She held a variety of jobs over the years, including positions at the US Post Office, Belk Department Store, Avon Cosmetics, and the Concord Telephone Company. Ms. Barnhardt also served as a reporter for the China Grove-Landis Times.
Claudine married the love of her life, Elmer F. Barnhardt, in 1952 and remained happily married until his death in 1996. She was an active member of several clubs in the Salisbury/Kannapolis area, including the Home Demonstration Club. Ms. Barnhardt was a proud member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, where she served in a variety of positions and clubs over the years. She was an avid quilter.
Ms. Barnhardt resided on Patterson Street in China Grove, NC from 1956 to 2002, before relocating to Birmingham, AL with her daughter and family. She shared a home with her daughter and family for 10 years after arriving in Alabama, before transitioning into various assisted living facilities including Somerby Senior Living, Elmcroft of Grayson Valley, Morningside of Vestavia Hills, and Aspire Hoover.
Ms. Barnhardt is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Buena Hinson, as well her loving husband, Elmer Barnhardt. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Barnhardt (Mike) Rector of Pelham, AL, and three granddaughters: Talitha Rector of Buford, GA; Michaela Rector of Pelham, AL, and Carissa (Adam) Knapp of Pelham, AL. She also leaves behind one great granddaughter, Eleanor Rose Knapp.
A “Celebration of Life” ceremony will take place at Aspire Hoover at a later date, followed by funeral services at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church and burial in China Grove, NC on November 7th at 2:00pm.
