Brandon was such an energetic kid, always into something. He wanted every toy they had to offer, only to get it home and take it apart to see how it worked and could never get it back together. He was always a curious guy. Brandon had the biggest heart. He loved everybody. He was so funny, witty, loving…just a pleasure to be around. Everyone that knew him, loved him. I want to share his story in hopes that I can save lives and his death will not be in vain. No one plans to be an addict.
Brandon’s addiction started during his teenage years. It started with opioids and moved on to heroin. He has struggled to get clean for years and would always fall back into his old ways. He was ashamed of the addiction, but it had a hold of him like no other. Brandon was incarcerated for the past 16 months. He was clean the entire time. He was out of prison for 7 days, he got a job and was so sore from working. On the 9th day of being out he complained about hurting, but I (his sister) had no idea that he was thinking about drugs. He said he was going to get a haircut, I believed him. After reading his messages on his phone he had talked to a friend and asked for something called Subutex… 40 minutes after asking for that, he was dead… Apparently Subutex is not what he got. I don’t know if the friend knew what he gave him. After the paramedics worked on him for 2 hours, he was critical, but stable enough for family to see him. We kept him on the machines for 5 days and learned he had no brain activity.
I say accidental overdose, because I have read many conversations on Brandon’s phone. He said many times that he had it kicked this time. He even has so-called friends offering “ice cream” which is meth. He turned them down. He didn’t want it. He wanted to make his family proud and he wanted to be proud of himself. In one conversation he was offering rehab clinics to one of his friends. He had no idea that would be his last day. He will be missed terribly.
Brandon was survived by his mother, Donna Bass (Larry), his father Brent Sullivan (Stephanie), Grandparents Kae Campbell (Dallas), sister Misty Sullivan (Wesley), sister Kenzi Sullivan (Tyler), sister Tangie Cochran, brother-in-law James Wright, niece Brooklyn Manus (Brennen), nephew Landon Wright, nephew Noah Anglin, nephew Mason Anglin, great niece Brielle Manus and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
