William Alfred “Alf” Maynard, aged 86, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2017, at Chilliwack Hospital. He was born December 21, 1930, in Chilliwack, the eleventh child of Lorenzo Leroy and Audrey Alice (Collinson) Maynard. He was named for his great-grandfather William Hall who was a Royal Engineer and a Chilliwack pioneer.
Alf lived his whole life in the Chilliwack area, first on the family farm in Greendale, then later in his own home. Most recently he was enjoying life and friends at Birchwood Retirement Residence.
Alf never married, but had many friends who will miss his cheery smile. A kind and quiet man, he was always ready with a story, often about the history of Chilliwack. He had an amazing memory.
Alf will be sorely missed by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Elsie (Marlatt), Gladys (McCaughan), Florence (Drake) and Mavis (Talpey), and brothers Leroy, Delmer, Wes and Dick. He is survived by sisters Alice (Carter), Bea (Mawby), Mae (Hill) and Vivian (Hetland), and brothers Fred and Don. His many nieces and nephews remember Uncle Alf fondly.
By request, Alf will be cremated, and quietly laid to rest with his parents.
The family would like to thank the amazing care givers at the Chilliwack Hospital and Birchwood.
Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, Chilliwack, BC.
