Ray was born on September 9th, 1938 in Brighton, England. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1958 to Kingston. He married Elizabeth Hamilton on May 5th, 1962 in Kingston. Ray worked as a federal correctional officer as a young man and moved in that career from Kingston to Petawawa, ON in 1967 and eventually to Chilliwack in 1973. He tried his hand at few other occupations from logging, to chef, to working the tugboats before coming back to Provincial corrections where he worked until his retirement. As a member of law enforcement Ray competed for over 20 years in the World Fire & Police Games all over the world, first in equestrian and later as a bi-athlete, competing last at the remarkable age of 71.
Ray was a man who loved to challenge himself and serve people which made his many years with Chilliwack Search & Rescue his proudest affiliations. With one of his 2 favourite dogs at his side, Bear and then Ben, they were an integral and popular part of this organization.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, his three children Kelly (Steve), Karen (Ron), and Kevin (Tarise), grandchildren Jordon, Chris, Molly, Siri, Kate, Brenna, Daniel and Ian, and 4 great granddaughters Lily, Emily, Elizabeth and Lydia.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chilliwack Hospice Society or Chilliwack Stellar Jays Lion Club.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and other staff and volunteers that showed great compassion and care for Ray over these past few months particularly those at Cascade Hospice.
