June 13th 1934 – Sept 9 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond James Foster, who departed this world peacefully on Sept 9th at the age of 90 years. Born on June 13, 1934, in Toronto Ontario, Raymond lived a life filled with adventure, hard work and a deep love for his family.
At the young age of 17, Raymond enlisted in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment as an airborne infantryman, a role that shaped his early years and imbued him with a lifelong sense of duty and resilience.
After his military service, Raymond embarked on a new journey as a merchant marine, working on oil tankers traversing the Great Lakes.
Raymond’s adventurous spirit allowed him to experience this country living in many provinces and even abroad.
Raymond later followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a skilled painter by trade. His craftsmanship left a lasting mark, particularly during the years he spent with the Calgary district 7 hospitals and the Hope school board.
Raymond’s experiences enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He was a dedicated father, and with his wife Roberta they raised a large and loving family.
Later in life his life took on new meaning when he met and married Belen Lirag. Together they created a home filled with love and laughter.
After retiring at the age of 65, Raymond enjoyed many years of contentment and joy with Belen.
His legacy lives on through his many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.
Raymond James Foster will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His strength, kindness and adventurous spirit touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them during this difficult time. A service will be held in his honor on September 20th at 11am at the Hope United Church.
