Mary Elizabeth Paus Peters

Mary Elizabeth Paus Peters, known affectionately as Mae, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Waverly Seniors Village in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Mae was born on February 5, 1923, in Belfast, Ireland, and lived a life marked by love, creativity, and resilience.

Mae is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Ellen Fleck; her son, Gaynel Paus; five cherished grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life, and her legacy lives on through them.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Cecil Paus; her second husband, Herman Peters; her son-in-law, Jake Fleck; her daughter-in-law, Bev Paus; and her grandson, Deano Paus. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their memories continued to inspire and guide her throughout her life.

Mae had a deep passion for travel, which allowed her to explore new places and create lasting memories. She was also a talented tailor, known for crafting her own exquisite clothing. Her keen eye for detail and artistry extended to her gardening, where she won awards for her stunning roses. Beyond her personal pursuits, Mae was dedicated to helping others through difficult times. She spent many years providing compassionate counseling to those grieving the loss of loved ones, offering solace and support with her gentle wisdom.

Mae's life was a testament to her enduring spirit and love for those around her. She will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered for her warmth, creativity, and generosity of heart.

A funeral service for Mary will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Saint Mary's Church, 8909 Mary St, Chilliwack, BC V2P 4J4. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at 2:30 PM at Chilliwack Cemeteries, 10010 Hillcrest Dr, Chilliwack, BC V2P 7X1. Please join the family for refreshments following the graveside service back at Saint Mary's Church.
