Marleen was 84 years old when she passed away peacefully with family by her side at Chilliwack General Hospital. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, John “Bud” of 65 years; her children Bill (Nancy), Debbie (Alan), and Kevin (Glenda); grandchildren Jordan, Sarah, Drew, Jamie, Matthew, Daniel, and Joel; siblings Don (Joy), Richard (Nida), and Doug; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Marleen was predeceased by her parents Nelson and Nellie, brother Bill, and sister Valerie “Paddy.”
Bud and Marleen lived in various parts of BC and finally settled in Agassiz, where they lived for close to 40 years. She worked many jobs, including switchboard operator, bookkeeper, and secretary, but the one she enjoyed most was at Van De Pol Mushroom Farm, becoming close friends with owners Jake and Mary.
She loved all her family and friends dearly and held a special place in her heart for Keisha, the family dog. Marleen was a talented artist, doing charcoal sketches and painting. She also enjoyed game shows, crosswords, puzzles, board games, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, calligraphy, and going fishing with her brother Richard. She was also a great cook, canner, and baker, making the most delicious cookies, crepes, and fudge. Over the years, she won many blue ribbons at the Agassiz Fall Fair for her preserves, canned fruit, relish, and pickled beets.
Marleen was a longtime member of Community of Christ Church at 9845 Carleton Ave in Chilliwack, and a Celebration of Life will be held for her there on Saturday June 3, 2023 at 11 a.m.
Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the kindness and support given to us all at this difficult time.
