With great sadness, we announce the passing of our Mom and Omi, Marianne Soth (nee Herold) She was so proud of her family, we were her everything, and each of us knew it and will forever hold on to the precious memories that we each have. Memories are supposed to keep those we love close to us after they leave. We look forward to when the ache subsides and we’ll be left with smiles as we remember those times.
Marianne was born in Reichenbach in Vogtland, East Germany, in 1937. After WWII ended, the family escaped to West Germany and settled near Hamburg. Marianne continued her schooling and graduated in business college. In 1954 they immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada. This is where she met the love of her life a handsome young Klaus Soth. She and Klaus married in 1955. They started with very humble beginnings, both worked hard to raise their family of 5 children and through the years moved from Winnipeg, to Yarrow, Abbotsford and eventually Columbia Valley.
There were many challenges along the way with health and accident, but both were gifted the intelligence and inner strength to succeed.
Most of Marianne’s life, she held the noblest of roles of housewife and mother. She raised her 5 children with lessons of honesty, integrity, consequences and perseverance. Every day consisted of family meals around the table with incredible german cooking, special occasions always had amazing cakes and other baked delicacies. Every single holiday, she had the house decorated to make the occasion even more magical. It always grounded us home to our roots to walk in Mom’s house as it always felt it was still our home. Over the years, 17 grandchildren and eventually 21 great grandchildren expanded her large family. She was so proud of all of them and found such joy in hearing about the moments and plans in each of their lives. She was our biggest fan.
Her beloved Klaus suddenly left us all to early through an accidental death in 2009 after 53 years of a loving marriage. For her remaining 15 years, Marianne remained independent in her home that held the memories she shared with Klaus and the family they raised.
Mom had a brief battle with cancer which she fought valiantly with her family by her side. In the end even our love could not keep her here any longer and it was time for her to be with Dad.
Our family is devastated that the pillar we all leaned on, told our secrets to, listened to all of our detailed stories and hopes is no longer here in person.
She will, however, remain in our hearts and we feel her presence close to us when we need her.
Marianne will be sadly missed by her 5 children, Michael Soth (Sandra), Rolf Soth (Trish), Peter Soth (Donalda), Susi Vander Wyk, Heidi Struys (Francis) along with 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, her sister, Traute Osadchy, extended family, friends and neighbours.
In lieu of flowers, we request that you make a donation in Marianne’s memory to either Cure SMA Canada or BC Children’s Hospital.
A celebration of life for Marianne will be held Monday, March 11, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Henderson's Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 45901 Victoria Ave, Chilliwack, BC V2P2S9, followed by a reception from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
