Justina Riediger passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on February 25, 2023 at the age of 102. Justina was the 2nd of 9 children born to Aron & Justina Riediger. She was born in Kherson, Russia, and came to Canada in 1924 as a 3 year old. The family settled in the village of Blumenort, Saskatchewan.
Justina was brought up in a Christian home and when she was a teenager, she went forward at an
Evangelistic Meeting to accept Jesus as her Saviour. The Lord gave her His peace and Eternal Life. She then thanked the Lord for salvation. The verse the Lord gave her was from Isaiah 41:10: "Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
Her daily prayer has been Ps. 103: 1-3: "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases." The following year she was baptized and joined the M.B. Church in Blumenort. At her baptism she was given Ps. 37:37: "Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace."
The family moved to B.C. in 1945, where she joined the East Chwk M.B. Church. She accepted Matt 6:33 and her motto: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."
Justina moved to Vancouver with 2 of her sisters where the Lord provided work for her and she gave of her money as to the Lord. While in Vancouver, she joined first the Vancouver M.B. Church and later the Culloden M.B. Church. In 1993, she moved back to Chilliwack with her 2 sisters and joined Central Community Church.
As Elizabeth, Justina’s youngest sister wrote most of this obituary for Justina before her own passing in 2013, she reflected on the following, “Personally, I have much to thank Justina for. She was my first Sunday School teacher. I also enjoyed watching her iron the laundry every week. When she ordered piano lessons from Victoria, I studied them and taught myself to play the pedal organ. In B.C. she bought a piano, and again I benefited the most from it. In retirement it was nice for us siblings to live in the same town and get to know each other at an adult level.”
Justina was predeceased by her parents, brothers Aron and Peter, sisters Helen, Mary and Elizabeth, a brother and sister in infancy, and her sister in law Irene. She leaves to mourn one sister Tiena, sister in law Helen, brother in law Henry Esau(Linda) and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Village for the excellent care they gave Justina during her last few years.
