June 10, 1927 – August 12, 2023
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our mother, the pillar of our family. Joyce passed away at Menno Home in Abbotsford, BC on August 12, 2023. She was 96 years old.
She was born to Clarence and Alma Sunde on June 10, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to various places, mainly in southern Saskatchewan. In a family of 18 children, she was predeceased by her parents and 8 of her siblings. She is survived by her sisters Candace, Mavis, Doreen, Gladys, Beverly, Patricia and her brother Calvin.
In 1947 she married Edmund Berg, who sadly passed away in 1988. They lived in Central Butte, SK where they farmed for several years and where their four children were born. They moved to Chilliwack, BC in 1967 to pursue the British Columbia good life.
Joyce leaves to mourn her loving children Roy, Dale (Gloria), Laurie, Dean (Lynn). Grandchildren Chris, Mike (Charlene), Jennifer (Tony), Kelly (Dave), Kory (Diana), and Lindsay (Aaron). Great grandchildren Dalen, Michaela, Kennedy, Brock, Parker, Emma, Sebastian, Nash, Brady, Rachel, Carter, Marek and Morgan. One great-great grandchild Wrenleigh. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, too numerous to name, but she had many special ones who kept in contact with her all throughout her years.
Joyce will be remembered for her love of watching sports – she was an avid watcher of hockey, baseball and curling. She curled for several years in Central Butte and Chilliwack. She loved to go to hockey and baseball games to watch her family play, including Edmund. She loved western movies and country music. Her favorite, Charley Pride, was playing close to her ear as she passed away. She loved to color and do crosswords which kept her fingers agile and her mind active. She was very independent and lived on her own up until this year. She loved visiting with her siblings and attending family reunions was always a high point in her life. You would easily find her and her sisters giggling together or one of the brothers teasing her. She loved to travel to see family, even in her later years. She remembered everyone’s birthday and they always received a card in the mail. She had 2 memorable family celebrations last year to mark her milestone of 95 years.
Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren and spending time with them. She is forever loved and will be forever missed.
A gathering to celebrate her life will be held a later date.
