Ian James Patrick McCracken passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022, in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 55. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Miriam McCracken, his sons Connor (Taia) and Sean (Morgan), his father Doug (Lyn), his brother Dave (Christl) and family, his father in-law and mother in-law (Adrian and Coby Koppejan) and many other extended family and friends. Ian was predeceased by his mother (Cam) just seven months ago.
Ian was born on March 17, 1967, to Doug and Camilla McCracken, and grew up in the Fraser Valley. In his early years, Ian enjoyed downhill skiing, waterskiing, and boating until his illness, Myotonic (Muscular) Dystrophy, prevented him from doing so. Moving forward and accepting his illness with grace, Ian turned toward watching his sons participate in sports with fondness and a great sense of pride. Many memories were made on family holidays to Mexico, and summers spent camping in Penticton.
Not only was Ian dedicated to his family, but he was also a well-respected Correctional Officer for 15 years until his illness required him to take early retirement in 2013. His passion for law enforcement has been passed down to his sons.
Miriam and Ian enjoyed 31 years of marriage together and created many loving memories. Ian was proud of his sons and the lives they are making for themselves. He will be greatly missed by his family and a wide circle of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 pm on August 29, 2022, at Central Community Church, 46100 Chilliwack Central Road. Light refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to [email protected] by August 19, 2022.
