Dad was a truck driver all his life. He worked anywhere from logging camps on the coast, to Canada Packers in the 50’s, to driving tankers for Dairyland for 25 years. While working full time for Dairyland he also ran his own trucks under Chilliwack Lake Trucking. Dad’s driving career included many awards for his driving in trucking competitions. His reliability to his employers and customers was unwavering. Dad had a reputation of an outstanding driver always going over and above.
Often we hear from people, “if you knew Hank, you loved Hank”. Dad was a man of character. He was true, honest, loving, kind, hard-working, and loyal to his family and friends. If you needed help with moving, construction, renovating, mowing your lawn, he was there for you. Even in later years when he physically struggled he would always offer saying “well I can’t do much, but I’ll do what I can”.
Dad loved his family and was happiest when family were together for dinners, parties, and celebrations. Dad had lived in his home for 44 years and he took great joy in his extended family, his neighbours, who cared for him as their own family. Great times were shared with his family and friends, camping and fishing throughout BC. He loved the road trips. Favourite trips included a road trip across Canada and into the states with mom.
Dad had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. From early on, he loved to kid around, taking a certain satisfaction when someone fell for one of his practical jokes. He loved to tease and be teased. Dad had the best laugh, and the most heart-warming smile.
The family would like to thank the staff of Gold Heart Home Care, and at CGH, Cedar Hill Long Term Care in Langley, and Cascade Lodge in Chilliwack for the love and care provided for the last few months.
A celebration of dad’s life will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Ryder Lake Hall, 49265 Elk View Road, Chilliwack, 12:00 pm. Sharing and story telling will begin at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
