It is with heavy hearts that the family of Glen Dirk announce his passing at sunrise on Wednesday April 17, 2024 in Sechelt BC. Born in Loon Lake Saskatchewan on July 16, 1938, Dad spent his early years in Edson Alberta before moving to Jasper, Kamloops, Vancouver and Chilliwack. Dad lived an extraordinary life full of adventure (and misadventure). He was iron-willed, always standing up for what he believed in and always saying exactly what he was thinking. Above all, he loved his family; he was a loving, generous, caring, protective and loyal Dad and Papa who will be so dearly missed. Glen had a rich professional life spending 40 + years as a hockey scout with the WHL and the NHL, 29 of those years with the New Jersey Devils (where he was fondly known as "Dirky"). He also spent 36 years working for CN Rail. His scouting accomplishments earned him the reputation as something of a "legend" in the scouting world. He won 3 Stanley Cups with the New Jersey Devils and continued his scouting work until 2 weeks before his passing. Glen was a great athlete and loved the camaraderie of competitive sport. In his younger years he was a tough hockey player, a scratch golfer, an avid baseball player and skier, he also loved a day on the river fishing. Dad "played on" well into his 80s. Dad took on the role as Papa with so much pride and joy. He often gave the advice to his grandchildren saying, "take care of your family, work hard and don't take any wooden nickels." Glen was predeceased by his beloved partner Louise Stewart, parents Joe and Selma, brother Lyle, and sister Blanche. He is survived by Lori (Aaron), Taylor, Jordan, Sasha (Riley), Max and Layla; Kelly (Chris) and Reid; Shelley (Rochelle) Courtney and Devin; his sister Shirley and family, Sheila, Brian, Micheal and Jeff (Deanna), also his life long friend Trudy (Will). He leaves behind many cherished friends and his faithful dog, Sammy "Aluha". Dad, we love you and thank you for being you.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 10th at 1:00pm, at Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home 45865 Hocking Avenue Chilliwack BC
