Doug was born in Simcoe, Ontario to Donald and Mary Richardson. He grew up with his four siblings: Ken, Linda, Jane, and Lori. As a boy he loved to fish, play soccer, and torment his siblings. In his youth he learned to play the guitar, which was a lifelong passion.
After graduation, Doug moved to Hay River, NWT, where he worked for the ship yards. He later worked on the ships going up to the Artic before beginning his career as a heavy duty mechanic.
While in Hay River, he had an encounter with God that changed the direction of his life; a conviction he held fast until his passing.
Doug married Gayla, and together they had three amazing children: Scott, Pam and Kristi. Throughout his life Doug made an impact wherever he went: from NWT to Nova Scotia to British Columbia, from El Salvador to Costa Rica. Doug had a passion for God, his family, fishing, music, working hard, and serving others.
