Carol was born in Steinbach Manitoba on August 7, 1944 to Andrew and Helen Braun. She was a proud sister of 11 brothers and sisters as well as a loving mother to her 2 children and adoring grandmother to her 5 grandchildren. In 1966 she married Barry Taylor, who predeceased her on December 31, 1993. While her family moved where Barry found work in hydro-electric projects of the 1970s, they raised their children mostly in Fort St. John BC where she worked as a cashier and kitchen manager, founded the Fort St. John chapter of Toastmasters, and attended and volunteered for Alcoholics Anonymous where she aided and mentored others in the journey to sobriety.
In 1988 she relocated to Abbotsford, happy to be back among much of her extended family. In the years following the passing of her husband, Carol was remarried and remained in Abbotsford with her husband Ed Pauls, who predeceased her in May, 2019. After her retirement she settled in Chilliwack where she spent her final years content in her apartment and her favourite spot on her couch, texting and taking calls from friends and family. She often said, “This is the only place I want to be, my happy place.”
Carol leaves behind her son Barry (Fatima) and her daughter Candace (Jason), five grandchildren Amanda, Bradyn, Paige, Dylan, and Arthur, as well as her siblings; Rosalie Schaufert (Ron), James Braun (Pam), Frances Friesen (Rennie), Kenneth Braun (Pat), Mary Jane Chapman (Charlie), and Victoria Janzen (Milton) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by siblings Jacqueline Bartel, Gordon Braun, Peter Braun, Catherine Joyce, and Patricia Braun.
Carol was a believer in her saviour Jesus Christ to whom we are thankful for her life and the many years we shared with her. We lift her to Him in honour of the good we saw in her and the love we felt from her. We leave her in His care, in the knowledge of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to her favoured charity, the Chilliwack Hospice Society/Abbotsford Hospice & Grief Support Society.
The following poem was found in her purse on a folded piece of paper with “1982” written in her handwriting on the reverse:
Let Go And Let God
As children bring their broken toys
With tears for us to mend,
I brought my broken dreams to God
Because He was my friend.
But then instead of leaving Him
In peace to work alone,
I hung around and tried to help
With ways that were my own.
At last I snatched them back and cried
“How could you be so slow?”
“My child, “ he said, “What could I do?
You never did let go.”
