Our beloved “Daddy”, father, Opa, and great Opa, passed away on July 15, 2022, at the Agassiz Seniors Care Home where he had resided for four and a half years, since the death of his beloved wife, Jennie, on December 26, 2017. He was surrounded by his family during the last four days of palliative care.
In 1955 he married Jenneke Everdina (Jennie) De Bruin, his wife of 62 years. They immigrated to Canada in 1962 and settled in Chilliwack. Together they raised 13 children:

Christina and Harry Oudshoorn- Shaughnessy, Alberta
Evelyn and Jonas Arnoldussen - Lethbridge, Alberta
Jenny and David Van Herk- Fort Macleod, Alberta
Bernie and Jennie were blessed with 72 grandchildren and 97 great grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his dear friend, Mr. Ted Stam, as well as his sister in law, Rina Stoutjesdijk/de Bruin, (Chilliwack), and is also survived by a brother and sister in law, Chris and Stien Den Hertog of Nieuwer Ter Aa, the Netherlands. Besides being predeceased by his wife Jennie, their three sons, Eddy, Johnny, and Bert, he was predeceased by his brother, Jan Den Hertog in 2016, a brother in law, Bill Stoutjesdijk in 2021, and a granddaughter, Jolene Oudshoorn in 2020.
Condolences may be offered from 7-8 pm on Wednesday, July 20 in the fellowship hall of Bethel NRC, 8920 Broadway Street, Chilliwack. Funeral service will be at 10 am on Thursday, July 21 at Bethel NRC.
