Our mom passed away on Nov lst in her 91st year, with family by her side. Mom was born July 22, 1922 in Llandudno, N. Wales. She had an interesting childhood, which she would be sure everyone in the family knew about the herb beer her mom made and she would have to deliver it before school, thus earning her the nickname “Annie Pop”. She also caddied on the West Shore Golf Course, and worked in a grocery store putting together orders. When WWll started, mom joined the ATS. She met our dad on a night out and they were married shortly after. When the war ended, she came to Canada with their daughter Lynda and settled in Rosedale.
Mom and dad stayed in Rosedale until dad became too ill to stay there. They had to be nearer the hospital and moved into Rainbow Estates where mom made more friends. According to her there were no strangers in life, just friends waiting to be introduced. She made many friends and no one was ever turned away from her door with the offer of a cup of tea and a buttie jam. When dad passed away, she joined the Heritage Singers and added her beautiful soprano voice to the choir, and her voice was so powerful I’m sure she could have broken crystal.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Maggie and Ivor Hughes, her beloved husband Harvey, daughter Dianne and her eldest grandson Wade.
Leaving behind to mourn and miss her are her daughters, Lynda (Ray) Silbernagel of Chilliwack, Heather (Colin) McKinnon of Morton`s Creek, NSW, Australia and son, John (Carolyn) of Williams Lake, 10 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and 3 great- great grandchildren and relatives in Wales.
There will be a viewing at Henderson`s Funeral Home on the evening of the Friday November 16th from 7:00 pm to 9:00pm. Mom`s funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov 17 at 2:00 pm at St. John's Anglican Church, Sardis. Interment to take place in the Legion Cemetery, Little Mountain Cemetery, Chilliwack.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
