She graduated from Childersburg High School in 1966 and married shortly after. She had one son Keith, that she deeply loved and spoiled to the max!!!! She worked at Winn Dixie for over 30 years, where she helped train an abundance of employees throughout her career. They were coworkers, but became lifelong friends.
Debra enjoyed living life and truly cared for others. She loved her grandchildren immensely!! she enjoyed her flowers and birds, and had a deep passion for animals, especially dogs. She was known for her famous egg sandwiches and her hambone soup.
She was widowed in January 2005. After living alone for some time, she met a very special friend, Her "David." The last 19 years of her life were her best years by far. They traveled and enjoyed life together as if they were young again. She loved him deeply until her very last breath.
She will be missed deeply by her family and friends.
Debra is survived by her son Keith Matheson (Rhonda); her special friend and companion David Robinson, her grandchildren Colby Matheson (Brittanie), Carlee Holder (Andrew), and Christopher Barron (Colette), her great grandchildren John Parker Matheson, Reese Barron, Presley Barron and Abby Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Debra was preceded in death by her mother Lydia Harris; her sisters Ramona Nipper and Deloris Sumpter and her brother Sonny Harris.
A visitation for Debra will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Debra's memory may be made to Childersburg or Sylacauga Animal Shelter.
