Betty Jo King, age 95, of Childersburg, AL passed away peacefully in the early hours of October 23rd at Sylacauga Health & Rehab. Mrs. King was born in Birmingham and was the only child of Eula and Herbert Jinright. Her early childhood was spent in Acmar, AL (St. Clair County) until the family moved back to Birmingham where she attended Gibson Jr. High and graduated from Woodlawn High School.
She married B.C. King in 1947 and they moved to Childersburg in 1954. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Childersburg where she was active in the choir and XYZ club.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her beloved husband, B.C. in 2006 and her grandson, Hunter Haisten in 2016.
She moved from her home in Childersburg to Spring Terrace Assisted Living in Sylacauga one month prior to her 90th birthday where she enjoyed five years before transitioning to the nursing home in January of this year.
Mrs. King is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Gary Haisten of Chelsea; and her son, Michael King of Birmingham. She is also survived by her grandson, Wes (Erin) Haisten and their children, Gracelyn, Mallory and Hollace; and Hunter’s children, Hallie Claire and Lila Haisten and their mother Laura Harris.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, October 26 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Childersburg, with Rev. Ron Partain officiating. Burial at Greenhill Memorial Gardens, Childersburg will follow. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 8th Ave SW, Childersburg, AL 35044.
