Today I ran across a picture of Yolanda and I decided to look her up.  While searching for Yolanda, I ran across her obituary and it brought tears to my eyes.  My heart is heavy and I am saddened to learn of her passing.  I send my condolences to Ana Mendoza and the Claudio family on your loss.  Yolanda was a good and kind friend to me.  Peace be still and may God Bless you Yolanda.

Dear Yolanda, Here are my notes from your Eulogy.  I miss you very much.

Yolanda.

Today we are gathered to mourn the loss of our loved one.  Auntie Yolanda had a lot of names, she really liked “yo,” but most importantly Auntie, Godmother, Sister, Daughter, Partner, Friend, Companion, and Co-worker.  You can call her anything as long as it's in good context.  Don't get on her bad side.

Auntie Yolanda wore many hats in her lifetime and I am going to do my best to name a few of those hats.

Auntie Yolanda the Godmother.  She never had children herself, but she loved every child she came across. During her illness, when she should have been resting, she would insist on chasing my and my brother's children around.  Every niece and every nephew had the privilege of having her in their lives.  Trips to the drive-in movie theater, bringing pizza, zoo's, show-biz pizza, renting movies and staying up late, waking up to breakfast, going out to sell landscaping materials… I don't know how many of you went with Yolanda to sell plants, trees, or watermelons but me and my brother did.  I guess I can honestly say that was my first job.  While working with her for 2 days as a child I learned a lot about plants, trees, watermelons, 26th st, getting paid, pay advances to take a watermelon home, and the interest I had to pay for that advance.  That was about 19 years ago and I swear to you all, after that I never even thought about taking a pay advance.  Every time I see a “Check into Cash” commercial I think about how much pay I lost for that watermelon.

Yolanda the pioneer:  For as long as I can remember, every career Auntie Yolanda has had she loved.  She always had fun at work.  She would always bring me little souvenirs from work.  2 years ago she gave my son a toy UPS truck…how sweet is that.  Back to pioneer; Auntie Yolanda would always call me explaining different ideas she has for making her job more efficient.  She always had very open mind that produced really good ideas.  For those who haven't seen her home, you should see what she has done with the place.

Yolanda the controversial:  She was a great woman, but there were those times where she has struck a nerve with some of us.  I'm going to share a story with you that I have only shared to few people.  Every responsible parent has the responsibility of talking to their children about sex when they become old enough to understand.  Yolanda, being my god mother took on that responsibility…. without even being asked.  I remember sitting in the basement watching TV with my brother and sister and Yolanda kicked them out and turned off the TV.  I was so uncomfortable.  She began talking to me about the changes I was experiencing and what will soon happen as I continue to grow into adulthood.  This line always sticks out when I think about it:  She said “It doesn't matter who you love (man or woman) as long as you have trust.”  My father came home from work and found out what was going on…I've never seen him run so fast down the stairs to stop her and she had to leave.  He didn't stop her because he disagreed with what she was saying, in fact he had no idea what she was saying, but this was his job and he didn't want to miss it.  

Yolanda the workaholic:  Yolanda was always working.  After work, she was working on something.  Yolanda was a very rugged woman.  She finally got that house she always wanted with Anna, and she worked hard on that house.  When I finally saw it, I was amazed with it…and she was still telling me all the things she plans to do with it.

Yolanda the party:  She couldn't dance in rhythm, she couldn't sing in tune….but she did dance and sing as loud as she possibly can.

Yolanda the open hearted:  Yolanda held no labels for anyone.  She often, without hesitation, allowed other family members to stay in her home.  Lord knows, she loved to feed us all.  Yolanda had a passion for cooking.  We would be full, and she still kept feeding.  When Yolanda found that her health was at its worst she was weak, and tired…but she insisted on making Armando lunch for work.  It's selfless actions like this we should learn from Yolanda.

Yolanda had a big heart.

If there is anything we should learn from her life.  It is to live life open and free.  If you have to work, then have fun at work.  If someone is down, help them up.  Be the best person you can be now.

Auntie Yolanda.  We love you…I love you.  We will see you again.  Wait for us, and keep the party going.

Also visit Baby Cor in California he graduated from  collage...

There will be an empty chair at the holiday table this year, but it will be filled with loving memories of you. I miss you and love you so much Tia.

I missed you so on your birthday and more so knowing you have been gone a year, the longest year of my life. Not a day goes by that you are not in my heart and always always on my mind. I see those silly things around the house that made you laugh and mostly all the projects that we started and I am really trying to finish them. All the new flowers are starting to bud, all that you helped me plant, I look at those and cherish those moments of our lives together. Trevor and I miss you so much my love, my life partner and forever friend.  Your presence is felt everywhere and that is my security.  I miss you so much Yolanda and can't stop crying becaue I miss you so much.

You are the love of my life and always will be! I will continue to celebrate your life forever. 

Special news to share is that we will be grandparents again, baby will be here in November.

I cannot begin to express my sorrow at losing such a beautiful person so early in life - she was a rare gem of a person.  We were blessed to have her in our lives, and her spirit will always be with everyone whose life she touched, even if only briefly. To my tia Yo I will miss you so much Its been a long time since I was around,  but every time I was it was the best time .You always made me feel special took me to work, tought me a lot when I was young and when I was older still gave me a job, but it wasn’t like work it was fun !That’s what you were fun! you gave love to everyone, no matter what I think the lord made a mistake. Family like me need you in life, you are insperation to all of us no matter how bad things are you made every thing ok I love you so much you took care of a lot of our family when you and aunty Anna couldn’t afford it but did it anyway you’re a gift from god but I guess he needed you more then us you will be truly missed by all of us I love you aunty Anna be strong we all need to be there for you in your time of need no one forget aunty Anna is so special as well always there for everyone before herself  just remember.

We met Yolanda in 2006 when we moved right next door to her family. From the first time we met, she welcomed us to the neighborhood with open arms. Her willingness to help, even when it was not asked from her amazed us. She was genuine, kind, loving and just full of energy. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and loved ones.
