Vera "Weronika" (Podsada) Cortes

A beloved mother, devoted wife, cherished friend, aunt, and caring sister to so many. Born and raised in Miechowice, Poland and then longtime resident of the Jefferson Park neighborhood in Chicago. At the age of 83, she passed away peacefully to God surrounded by her loving family.

Loving mother of John (Nancy), Josef (DeAnna), Adam (Grazia) and Michael (Michelle). Proud grandmother of Samantha (Joey), Brittany (Justin), Alvaro (Abbey), Adam-Alexander, and Violet. Cherished great-grandmother of Serafina and Evelyn. She was a devoted sister to her many siblings living in Poland and here in Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her loving devoted husband, Rigoberto "Rigo", whom she now joins in eternal rest. She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, carried on by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, dear friends, neighbors, and all those whose lives she touched.

Vera was a woman of unwavering spiritual faith in Christ full of kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her giving spirit was evident in every aspect of her life—whether it was through a warm meal shared, a comforting word offered, or the countless ways she supported those around her.

Above all, she was a mother who deeply cherished her children, ensuring they were always provided for and instilling in them the importance of faith and education.

Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love she so freely gave. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Vera, your love, kindness, and generosity will continue to shine in the hearts of those who were blessed to know you.

A wake for Vera will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. Everyone is asked to assemble 9:45am for a funeral mass on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish & Church, 6020 W Ardmore Ave, Chicago, IL 60646. An interment will follow at St Adalbert Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleums, 6800 N Milwaukee Ave, Niles, IL 60714.
