Dear Maureen & Family,
Tom was a sweet man,always kind and thoughtful. We remember him climbing the very tall ladder in his garage to fetch the high chair and tricycle for our now grown grandchildren to enjoy! 
May you rest in peace, dear friend. You are sorely missed.

Papa,
   I don't know where to begin, but grateful seems to be a good place to start. I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have had such an amazing relationship with you. You taught me how to play baseball in the front yard, tennis at 8 am in Florida, how to skin a fish (even if it wasn't legal size, you let me keep it), play every card game imaginable, solve the Wheel puzzle before it even came up, how to treat people with respect, how to work hard, real hard,  to love unconditionally, put family and friends before yourself, never give up and so much more. I hope to one day have the morals and values you carried in your everyday life.

   You were and are the most important person in my life, I will never ever forget you, never stop thinking about you, never stop talking about you and hope I can make you proud. People in my life will always know who Papa is and what an incredible man you were. You invested so much time in me, all I ever wanted to do was make you proud. 

   I could go on and on, but the bottom line is I love you, I love you so much! I will miss you here, but I will not say goodbye. As you can already tell, I plan on talking to you often, you still will be a shoulder I will lean on, and we will always and forever be watching the Cubs games together. You will always be my mentor, my coach, my best friend, and my Papa.

  Thank you for the incredible family you left behind, thank you for always looking out for my Mom and I, thank you for holding my hand when I needed it the most, just thank you.

   Say hi to Uncle AB, Aunt Nancy and my Dad. Take it easy on those guys up there in tennis and poker, someone just gained the best doubles partner ever. Just remember, I get that spot when we met again!

  I LOVE YOU, always have and always will. I look forward to meeting again, but I certainly will be talking to you often. Watch over all of us, which I know you will. I miss you already Pa. Grandma is in great hands, she is also loved so dearly. I love you both so much!

To the entire Herling Family, 
We feel as though we know each and every one of you through Tom & Maureen as they spoke about their family often with great pride.  Our family looked forward to seeing both of them in Naples Florida every winter and we enjoyed spending time going out to eat and telling stories.  Tom always ordered Prime Rib medium rare & Maureen got Chicken Marsala as we talked about everything from politics to family to all Chicago sports teams.  We will truly miss Tom....we are very blessed to have met such an incredible giving caring man who simply adored his wife and enjoyed life like he did.  Naples will not be the same without him every year.

Thank you for everything you have done for me and our families.  I had a great teacher on how to be a dad. You taught us to respect God, country and our fellow man at an early age.  You taught us right from wrong - but most importantly, the right way may not always be the easiest.  Hard word and determination has its own rewards. We will pass along those morals, values, standards and traditions you taught us.
Life is a journey, choose the path wisely, so you can enjoy the ride, it will define your legacy.

My Dearest Uncle Tom, you will be so dearly missed. What I'll remember most is your quite spirit. It may have been misunderstood at times but to me your quietness spoke volumes.  What words did not say, a smile, a simple nob, a pat on the shoulder, a wave, or an out reached hand did.  It showed admiration, respect, happiness, tenderness and most importantly love. You've won your battle against cancer and have found your peace in Heaven.

Dear Dad,
I cannot thank you enough for all the love you shared with both myself and Ron! We will miss you, but we are so bless for all the wonderful memories of us together. I will also cherish those one you and I share together alone, because those will be held close to my heart forever!!!
