Tom J. Connelly, age 80, retired CFD, Army Veteran, and longtime resident of Chicago’s southside, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2020. Loving husband of 45 years to Peg Connelly, nee Novotny; Caring father to Erin Connelly; Beloved brother to the late Dennis (Janet), Mary Ann (Tom) Burns, the late Katie (Patrick) O’Sullivan, Margaret (Jim) Kenny, and Jack; Dear uncle to many nieces and nephews; Devoted brother-in-law to Patricia Novotny.
Tom led a rich, full and long life. He fought fires in Chicago, dressed up as Dracula at daddy-daughter Halloween parties and told the corniest of all dad jokes multiple times a day. In his last years, he watched deer prance across his gardens, fished and casino hopped, where he fulfilled a lifelong dream to own property and a home with his wife, Peg, in the Wisconsin countryside. A man who gave his heart (and jokes) to many, he played a great and special uncle to Evie and Roman (Campbell) and Aaron and Andre (Burns). For those who knew and loved Tom, remember him, speak of him often and throw a few nickels in the slot machines in his honor.
A memorial for Tom is being planned for the future due to the current health environment. Please continue to check www.andrewmcgann.com for updates.
