To Dorothy and your family, I'm so sorry  for your loss.  I have memories of Dick when me & Katherine would hang out at the house & eat chocolate chip cookies that their Mom made in the guy's 'bunk beds.'  I remember you & Dick sitting at the kitchen table & showing me your engagement ring & how happy you both were.  It looks like you had a wonderful life together and those are the GREAT memories. 

To my friend, Katherine & your family, I'm sorry you've lost your brother.  I have fond memories of your whole family when we were growing up.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Dorothy, and your family at this difficult time. Grief is hard to endure, but memories will help you cope. 

A word of advise to Danny, David and Tommy: keep your father's memory alive by speaking of him often to your children. As the years go by, memories of a departed loved one fade so it's important to keep their grandfather's memory alive.  Thinking about the fact he is no longer wit you in body hurts so much you might shy away from talking about him. That's something he wouldn't want, you know that!

Bob and Dick (along with Bob Ernst) have been buddies since grammar school and have a lot of stories they could share (or maybe not!).  I've known Dick since 1959 (55 years???..can't be!) when I started dating Bob.  Dick begrudgingly accepted me in his buddy's life but loved to refer to me as Bob's "left handed Lutheran". I loved his humor, jokes and optimistic outlook on life.  Dick was fun to be around and we will miss him dearly. I'd love to be given the chance to make him one more BBQ rib dinner but he's gone on to bigger and better things.

Well, dear buddy, God has taken away all your pain and suffering. Now you have a whole new audience for your jokes and riddles!  We'll catch up with you later in God's own time.

To my Buddy,

Where do I begin to recap the association and memories of a lifetime?

From our years at grammar school at St. Leo, trying to stay in the good graces of the nuns, to the sometimes crazy but manhood building days at Leo H.S., you always managed to be a sometime clown and s___kicker by pushing to the limit, then knowing just when to back off and stay out of trouble.  
 
We sure had fun in the band, a few jaunts in summer school after screwing up a few classes, but getting through it all.
In the summers, we spent a lot of time going to Rainbow Beach on the lakefront.
â€œHey Bob, wanna go beach? Let's go beach!â€
And don't forget the times that we (and Bobby Giltmier, our other lifetime buddy) caddied at Beverly Country Club.

Even when I went off to college at St. Joe in Rensselaer, In., you and Bobby G. showed up in the middle of the night to harass me (albeit after a night of tipping a few and then deciding it would be a good idea!)

Well, you guys went to work careers and I spent 3 Â½ yrs active duty in the Navy as a junior officer.  But even after I returned we stayed in touch and remained friends.  You started a family with very lovely Dorothy. (I was impressed how you ever managed to woo her !)  I got married too, but it lasted only three years.

Even through those years we got together.  I remember a Halloween costume house party I threw and you came bursting in as a cheerleader in short skirt and full drag and pom-poms with Dorothy following in a full football gear outfit with helmet and ball!

I left my job as an I.R.S agent after 5 years and became a business partner with Mel, who also became a close lifetime friend.  

And even in some of those years, when I was single, I would drop in to your place in Calumet Park for a visit and libations after work, typically unannounced.
I always felt welcome as a member of the family.  However, I'm sure Danny, David and Tommy will remember how they had to endure haircuts from â€œUncle Bobâ€, even though I thought I did a great job and always asked how they preferred it cut.   Of course, you always got the  â€œcrew cutâ€ but they wanted no part of that!

And then when Kathy and I married you all became close and we have wonderful 
 memories of many times together.

Well, goodbye good friend and â€œHis Self the Elfâ€, I'll see you at the beach!

Dear Dick,
I have lovely memories with you as kids.  The others were just that much older, so didn't pal with us when the family was together.  Sliding down castle hill in the winter; Pulling turkey meat off the bone and feeding it to Boots; Dropping bits of paper through the vent onto the kitchen counter; Going to the Zoo and Riverview with Lora;  Many hours of Canasta;  St. Sabina dances on Sunday night; Aunt Abbey's love and kindness all the days of my life.  See you when I too pass to Eternal Life.  Put in a good word for me in your prayers.
