Regina B. Schattnik, loving wife of the late Robert, beloved mother of Richard Schattnik, Mary Brown (Robert) and Daniel Schattnik (Celeste) and beloved grandmother to Emily Brown (Ben Bahl) and Kelsey Schattnik. Last surviving loving sister of Genevieve Loeb (Paul), Rose McBride, Catherine McBride, Thomas McBride (Catherine), Mary McBride, Margaret Paluch (Chester), James McBride and Patricia Lavery (Edwin). Proud and cherished aunt of 12 nieces and nephews and great aunt to many.
Regina was a Registered Nurse (R.N.) who proudly spent many years assisting senior citizens in their final days. In her 50’s, Regina and her sister Patricia discovered the joy of running. During those years, Sunday mornings included a family run along the lakefront, followed by a group breakfast at home. Beginning in 1978, she successfully completed the Chicago Marathon a number of times, as well as a running in other events such as the Bonnie Bell Classic, the Race for the Cure and the Chicago Distance Classic 20k (in which she won first place for women 50 and over in 1983). When she ran, it was usually with family members.
Regina will always be remembered for being a loving spouse, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and aunt; a compassionate nurse and a devote Catholic. She touched the lives of many during her 95 years, a life she lived to the fullest. She and her late husband Robert were especially thankful for the loving care and assistance provided by their devoted son Richard.
