I ran out of space so I continue.  The biggest thing I enjoyed about Paul was his friendship.  We talked many times about nothing and everything.  One thing we enjoyed was texting by the campfire.  Whether I was up at the lake or burning wood in the backyard, I’d pick up the phone and text him.  You up?  Hey buddy.  It would go on from there.  Once we went on for an hour and a half talking, dreaming, and then planning of buying a cherry orchard in the Sleeping Bear Dunes area.  This dream went so far as my son designed the logo for this company and we even reached out to a realtor in the area.  Good thing we didn’t find the right property but he often talked about it and we were determined one day to make this happen.  
So many of us can tell of similar experiences we have had with him.  We loved his positivity and his ear to talk too.  Every day I pass the Michigan House and his home and can’t help but think of Paul with a smile on my face.  I miss him, we miss him, and we all hope he is at peace in heaven waiting for us to come and deliver his big handshake and “how you doing”.  Rest in Peace my friend.   



Paul was a good friend and a very kind, supportive, and caring soul.  He wanted to help everyone who had a problem.  He was always putting a positive spin on every situation.  You couldn’t leave his presence without a smile on your face.  His caring and helping nature made his last few years so hard for his family and friends as we reached out to help, repay is generosity and be supportive but something prevented him from letting us in.  But these last years don’t define him, so let’s celebrate his life.
Paul loved his family especially his children.  When I first met him, he talked about the canoe camping trips they would take.  He talked about their kind hearts and was always so proud of them.  He loved the Minnesota vs Michigan football games that he and Spencer would go to and cherished those times.  He often talked about the Olympics he and Spencer shared, from the opening ceremony to the tavern filled with Canadians loving their curling on TV.  He proudly spoke of his daughter teaching underprivileged children in Chicago and his other daughter’s business prow less.  And let us not forget the carriage ride he and his daughter took around the property making her late for the wedding.  Paul? Late?  That ride with his daughter meant so much to him.   
He talked glowingly about the two ladies in his life.  First, he often talked about the mother of his children.  Sorry, I’m terrible on remembering names.  It was never about anything negative about their marriage, divorce, or the raising of their children.  He cherished how she loved them, raised them and cared for them.  Rachel, the other love of his life, he talked about how he adored her.  He carried a picture in his wallet that whenever he opened it up to retrieve something, there she was.  While the two had a tumultuous relationship, he always spoke lovingly and kind of her.  


Paul is a good friend. One day I stopped by his office to chat. We decided to go get an ice cream cone. At the shop, he saw a young father with his daughter.  Paul walked up and bought  them ice cream just because. As we headed back to the office, we saw a youth who happened to be black. We stopped and Paul struck up a conversation.  As we talked you could tell the youth was working hard at life but it had been a bit of a struggle. At the end Paul gave him Paul’s card and told him if he ever needed something even if it was just to talk for him to call. That was Paul.
