It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Greenwood, née Smith, announces her passing following a brief illness, on March 6, 2021. Patricia was born December 1, 1947 at Saint Anne’s Hospital in Chicago, was raised in Arlington Heights, and graduated from Palatine High School in 1965. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics at Northwestern University in 1988, and spent most of her working career as Vice President of Marketing at the AC Nielsen company. She was a proud resident of the Lincoln Park neighborhood from 1974 to 2021. Patricia was a vibrant and beautiful woman, known for her kindness, humility, and humor. She was an inspiration to others for her enthusiasm and positive attitude, as well as a comfort for her compassion and generosity. A believer in staying active, Patricia’s interests were wide-ranging, and included yoga, golf, French, world travel, and volunteer work. Later in life, she discovered her natural talent as a painter, and loved to share her works with family and friends. Though she will be missed dearly, Patricia’s memory and spirit will be carried forward in the lives of those she touched. She is survived by her partner Thomas Amato, son Peter (Rebecca) Greenwood, daughter Jamie Greenwood, brothers Douglas (Judith) Smith, Jr. and Richard Smith, and grandsons Daniel and Thomas Greenwood. She is preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Irene Smith. A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held later in the year. Memorial service information will be posted on the Drake and Son Funeral Home website. Donations in her memory may be made to the Autism Research Institute and the American Red Cross, links provided below.
