Pandelis was the beloved son of the late Demetrios and Argyro; loving father to Ari; cherished brother of Nikos, Rena, Yassemi, and Ourania; dear cousin and uncle to many.
Born in 1945 and raised in Volos, Greece, Pandelis moved to the US at eighteen to attend the University of Maine. He was further educated at Marquette University, SUNY-Buffalo, UCLA, and the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez. Along with a medical degree, he held a PhD in theoretical nuclear physics. Pandelis was an independent medical practitioner in the Chicago area for over 35 years, maintaining practices in Evanston and in the Northwest suburbs. He visited his patients daily in their homes, and in hospitals and nursing facilities across the area. Medicine was his great passion, and his dedication, generosity, and care for his patients went light years beyond the call of duty, earning him the moniker "Superman." A great many of his patients became lifelong friends.
Pandelis lit up every room he walked into with his zany humor, his dashing sense of style, his playfulness, his compassion, his curiosity, his generous heart, and his zest for living. Having grown up on a farm, he loved plants and gardening, and always knew what a plant needed in order to thrive. He also loved poetry and literature, photography, cycling, cooking tourlou-tourlou, dancing, rembetika, Metallica, good wine, and celebrations — and he loved his family, friends, and community deeply and selflessly. Pandelis will be forever loved and missed by those whose lives he touched.
