

Nancy Hoskinson McCormick a prominent philanthropist in the arts and education passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital in Miami surrounded by her loving family. A resident of Coconut Grove, Florida and Seal Harbor, Maine, she died on the evening of February 18, 2017.
She and her late husband, Mr. Charles Deering McCormick, were supporters of numerous causes, including Northwestern University, the preparatory Groton School in Mass., the Deering Estate at Cutler, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami and Planned Parenthood. The couple also were significant benefactors of the Art Institute of Chicago and many other charities.
“Nancy McCormick was a remarkable woman whose influence and impact will continue to be felt at Northwestern and many other institutions,” said Northwestern University President Morton Schapiro. “Her generosity and leadership have benefited Northwestern’s Deering Library tremendously, as well as other areas of the University. She will be missed and remembered fondly by all of us who knew her.”
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the estate of her husband’s great uncle, James Deering, was conveyed to Miami-Dade County in 1952 through the efforts of her husband’s parents, Marion Deering McCormick and Chauncey McCormick. Mrs. McCormick was actively involved with Vizcaya even before it opened to the public in 1952 and throughout her life, selflessly devoting her time and support to ensure the institution’s success. “She is remembered by her friends at Vizcaya for her passion, her warmth and her humor,” said Vizcaya’s Executive Director, Dr. Joel M. Hoffman.
Mrs. McCormick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hilleary G. Hoskinson, was born November 11, 1919 in the District of Columbia where her father was the Senior Vice President of Riggs National Bank. She graduated from the Holton Arms School in Washington, D.C. in 1938 and married her late husband in Washington, D.C. on December 27, 1947. Mrs. McCormick was active in many civic, charitable and social organizations and was cherished by many friends in Miami, Seal Harbor, Chicago, and other places.
Mrs. Charles Deering McCormick was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her son, Hilleary Hoskinson McCormick. Survivors include granddaughter, Nancy V. T. McCormick and beloved great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Cyra, daughter-in-law Katherine McCormick; as well as nephews, Theodore and Hilleary Hoskinson. Services for Mrs. McCormick will take place on Saturday, February 25th at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago at 2pm.
