Son of Ignacio Alvarez Lira and Maria Felicitas Garcia Vanegas, and older brother of 8 siblings.
He died unexpectedly at the age of 58 after a short illness.
He was born in Mexico City, but from a very young age lived in Irimbo, Michoacan. He attended schools in the area and was always an outstanding student.
During his school years, he participated in all kinds of sports, which included participating in many marathons in Mexico City. One of them where he was a finalist and won a medal.
In 1989 he married Mirella Franco Palomino, coming to Chicago a year later to settle down and enjoy a blissful life with his beautiful new wife, where they remained.
He did all kinds of jobs, from learning to make tacos, to lay carpet, to his favorite place...CTA. Where he learned to do everything, thanks to his supervisors and co-workers, who became like family to him.
He took as many courses as he was offered, obtaining more than 15 diplomas and certificates.
He was lover of sports. His favorite football team being the Bears. His favorite soccer team was "Los Pumas". But what he enjoyed most of all was fishing, more specifically Fly fishing.
Being a member of TU and DRIFT for some years, he participated as a volunteer for many organizations and activities like the Boys Scouts, cleaning the rivers, and going to different schools to teach them about the importance wildlife and keeping the environment clean.
Something that many people knew about him, was that he loved to dance. He was always the life of the party.
He loved children so much that he donated to various care centers, such as: Shriners, St. Jude, St. Joseph School, and others.
Another of his favorite things to do was to travel, to see new places, and experience new things. Some of the places he got to visit were Niagara Falls, Bahamas, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and several other places in Mexico and the United States.
His dream was to retire and live in Tennessee, his favorite place.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Miguel that will be held Saturday, October 28th, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home - Blossom Chapel, 6901 West Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60634. A final viewing will occur Sunday, October 29th, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6901 West Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60634. A celebration of life service will occur Sunday, October 29th, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 6901 West Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60634.
