Mark Andrew Chan, 39, of Lincolnwood passed away on October 11, 2022 at Ascension Saint Francis. He was born on May 8, 1983, in Evanston Hospital, and attended Niles West High School in Skokie, IL. Mark graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 2005.
Mark earned his first job working in the photo department at Target starting in 2007. He made several friends and shared stories of life behind the scenes at a big box retail store. During fourteen years of dedicated service, Mark earned several awards of recognition as he rotated through positions including the customer service area where he calmly shared the store’s policies with thousands of guests.
Mark’s loves and passions can easily be discovered through a scan of his bookshelves or a scroll through his Facebook page. He loved to read, watch movies, and play video games. No book was too long, no movie was too complex, and no game was too elaborate. Mark invested the time and effort to finish his reads, analyze a film’s direction, lighting, and production, and he completed games not only to see the credits, but to earn achievements created for only the most curious gamer.
In recent years, Mark developed a fondness for WWE, comic conventions, European football, and food. However, nothing could supplant his love and appreciation for all things Disney. He would reminisce on the moments that he experienced at the parks, and he would live and relive moments through family photos and YouTube live streams. Mark had a chance to experience Galaxy’s Edge on his final trip to Disneyland this past August. He shared with many of us how this was a dream come true, and how riding Rise of the Resistance (twice) was worth it all.
Mark is survived by his parents, Shu Jin and Sharleen, brother David, sister-in-law Tiffany, his nephews Caleb and Spencer, and maternal grandmother Sun Tam Sieu. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Kwok Gee and Mi Wan Chan, and maternal grandfather Sing Kam Sieu. Mark will be greatly missed by all, including his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
