Maria Elvia Harb

Maria Elvia Harb, nee Tejedor, was born on June 10, 1946, in Sogamoso Boyacá, Colombia, to Joaquin Tejedor and Maria Venancia Martinez. Maria immigrated to the United States in November 1964 and devoted her life to raising five children in Davenport, Iowa, and Chicago, Illinois.

Maria was a humble and dedicated hard-worker who always found joy in cutting hair, which she pursued passionately during her 35 years at Regis Hair Salon.

As a woman of faith, Maria was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on November 17, 2001 and was a devoted member of the Bridgeview Spanish Congregation.

For Maria, the unity of her family was paramount, and she was a pillar of strength and support for her loved ones. She cherished spending time with her family, reading before bed (especially biographies), and listening to cumbias, Carlos Vives, and Elvis Presley. Although she lived in the United States, Maria never forgot her Colombian heritage and instilled a deep appreciation for her culture in her children and those around her.

Maria will be deeply missed and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her beautiful spirit and kind heart will continue to inspire and guide us, and we will always cherish the time we spent with her. Maria Elvia Harb was a true gem, and we are forever grateful for the love and joy she brought into our lives.

Beloved mother of Maria Victoria (Rudy) Loranca, Art (Nellie), Ray, Leila (Fernando) Rabiela and Asad (Gloria); cherished grandmother of Robert (Allison), Daniel, Angie (Charles), Jasmine (Zack), Helena, Halley, Liliana, Anaiis, Evan, Sofia, Cecilia, Sergio, Natalia, Samuel and great-grandma of Nadia, Nyana, Elena, Maya and Lydiah; dearest sister of Sarita (late Jose) Valenzuela, Paulina Martinez, the late Mercedes and the late Baudilio (Luz); dear aunt, cousin and friend of many.

Visitation for Maria will be on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Memorial service at 6:00 PM at Ridge Funeral Home, (Edward A Tylka, Manager), 6620 West Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60638.
