Maria Guadalupe Cuevas who graced this earth for 75 years passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones on September 24, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Jose G.Cuevas for 51 years. Loving mother of son, Alex Cuevas and spouse Lori Cuevas with their son Nathaniel A. Cuevas, daughter Denise Cuevas and spouse Vesco and her daughter Jordan A. Micus, daughter Cristina Cuevas with her daughter Corinne F. Rodriguez with partner Marina Silva, son Jose Cuevas Jr. and spouse Jennifer O. Cruz and their daughter Josie A. Cuevas, son Juan Cuevas with partner Michelle Hessel. She is survived by her siblings Bertha (Juan) Avina, Elena (Jose) Chavez, Luis (Leecha) Murillo, Andres (Elsa) Murillo, and Cuca (Helio) Balle.
Maria was born in Mexico and came to Chicago in the late 60’s where she lived with her cousin Abigail. Both her cousin Abigail and her sister Cuca continued to be a great support system in Maria’s life even until her very last days. Maria and Jose met while living in the Lincoln Park neighborhood living on Wrightwood Street. They later married at St. Vincent DePaul church. Maria had a passion for gardening and enjoyed planting her flowers and vegetables in her yard. She later moved on to doing the same in her son and daughter in-law Jenny’s garden. She was a loving caregiver to her granddaughter Josie. She loved to travel to her hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico where she visited her family and friends. Also, she enjoyed all the highlights that the City of Chicago offered her as it became her home for more than half her life. Maria enjoyed shopping especially during the holidays as her joy came from giving gifts rather than receiving them. She was such an amazing, sincere, and loving person. She is now at peace and reunited with her parents, Jose and Maria Cruz, and is holding hands with her late daughter, Gloria Cuevas
A visitation (memorial service) for Maria will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646, followed by a chapel prayers at 7:00 PM.
